A rather painfully dated short story. An American agent is given ulimited money and resources to contact the Soviet underground and precipitate the overthrow of the Communists. It seems their science and economic progress not only has embarassed the West, but surpassed it and they are on the verge of conquering the world through example, rather than by force of arms.

Most of the story consists of the plot to bring down the Communists, with a little love interest thrown in. The question arises, "who, or what, will replace the Communists?"

Unfortunately, we know that answer, and the answer the author comes up with requires an unrealistic idealization of the Russian people and their abilities. Still, it's interesting something so "unAmerican" could be printed in the 1960s.

Very interesting premise for a short story. The only issues I had is that it seemed a bit rushed, as though it would have made a better novella w/50-100 more pages. And the painfully obvious love interest pasted in is a bit forced.

Interesting and bite sized though.
